HENNY PENNY'S VALENTINE (WC 214)

By Michelle S. Kennedy

(Henny Penny) “Oh, my dear! Valentine’s is almost here…”

(No one knows all Henny’s reasons. She’s afraid of ALL the seasons. Strange beliefs have kept her worried…)

“IF!”

“IF!”

“IF!”

(Her mind is flurried! Troubled by her superstitions, Henny made some premonitions):

IF the sky is blue today,

my Valentine will run away.”

Note to self: Better get some good running shoes…

IF I see a chickadee,

my Valentine will dance with me.

”Practice my best moves…

IF I lose my voice to cluck,

my Valentine will bring bad luck.”

Where’s my throat spray?!

IF my coin flips up on ‘tails’,

my Valentine will give me snails.

Blech! I hate seafood.

IF I step on sidewalk cracks,

my Valentine is Mr. Quacks.Oy-vey!

Have you seen him waddle?

“I bet since I just crossed my toes,

I’ll avoid the ‘red-heart’ woes.

I don’t have toes? Well, how ‘bout that?!”

Must’ve crossed a scaredy-cat…

“Me oh my, I fear my fate.

Maybe Valentine’s can—wait?!”

Hmmm.

“I’ve got it—I’ll stay home today.

And Valentine’s will go away…

In fact, I’ve heard the sky is falling!

Valentine’s will not be calling…

Nope—too late. I hear the door!

Through the peephole, I’ll explore…

”Can superstitions NOT be true???

“My Valentine turns out is— YOU???”

Whew!
